Travel Logistics for Cambridge, MA
Our summer workshops will be held in Adolphus Busch Hall at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Busch Hall is located at 27 Kirkland Street, across from the Graduate School of Design and Harvard Yard.
Directions From Logan Airport
If you are flying into Boston's Logan Airport, the most convenient option is to take a taxi from the airport to Harvard Square, Cambridge to reach the Summer 2011 Teaching with Technology Workshops. A taxi takes about 30 minutes and the fare is approximately $30-$40.
You can also take the subway (also known as the T) or a bus from Logan Airport. The MBTA website has schedules and details. At South Station, get on the Red Line northbound toward Alewife Station. Take this train to the Harvard Square stop. Busch Hall is a short walk from the T station.
Directions by Car
If you are planning to drive to Cambridge and have not experienced Boston-area driving, be prepared for a challenge. Street names change frequently and are often unmarked. There is no parking at the campus, and street parking is limited. You may look for Parking Garages around Harvard Square.
From the NORTH or SOUTH: Take Route I-93 into Boston. Exit at Storrow Drive/Cambridge. Follow Storrow Drive along the Charles River about 3 miles to the exit marked HARVARD SQUARE/CAMBRIDGE. (Continue with the "From Harvard Square Exit on Storrow Drive" directions below.)
From the EAST or WEST: From I-90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) get off at Cambridge/Allston exit 18 (eastbound) or exit 20 (westbound) and follow signs for Cambridge. At the first light, get in the left lane, and prepare to turn left 50 feet ahead. Do not cross the river—turn left just before the bridge. Drive straight along the river through two lights (River St. and Western Ave.) and merge onto Storrow Drive. Go ½ mile to the first exit, marked HARVARD SQUARE/CAMBRIDGE. (Continue with the "From Harvard Square Exit on Storrow Drive" directions below.)
From the Harvard Square Exit on Storrow Drive: Exit Storrow at Harvard Square and turn right onto the Lars Anderson Bridge (which becomes JFK Street). Continue straight through three sets of lights. The next light is the center of Harvard Square—you will be facing a newsstand called Crimson Corner.
Directions by Subway
Go to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) website for a complete subway map and schedule. Harvard Square station is off of the Red Line and will put you within a short walk of Robinson Hall.
Parking
All day on-street parking is virtually impossible to find in or around Harvard Square. In many areas, on-street parking is prohibited without a resident permit. Listed below are four public parking facilities within walking distance of Harvard Yard, and one parking facility located at the Alewife T station. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to park.
Church Street Lot - $23/day
From John F. Kennedy Street, go straight through the traffic lights at Memorial Drive, Eliot Street, and Mount Auburn Street. The next traffic light will put you in the center of Harvard Square, facing a newsstand called Crimson Corner. Take a sharp left at Crimson Corner, then bear right immediately onto Brattle Street. Take the first right onto Church Street, and the parking lot is halfway up the street on your left.
Harvard Square Parking Garage - $21/day
From John F. Kennedy Street, go straight through the traffic lights at Memorial Drive, then turn left at the first light onto Eliot Street. The parking garage is immediately on your right.
University Place Garage $23/day
From John F. Kennedy Street, go straight through the traffic lights at Memorial Drive, then turn left at the first light onto Eliot Street. Go straight through the next light onto Bennet Street. Bennett Street dead ends onto University Road. Turn left onto University Road, and the parking garage is immediately on your left.
Charles Hotel Parking - $20/day
This parking garage is located across the street from the University Place Garage and below the Charles Hotel. Follow the previous instructions to the University Place Garage. When you are on Bennett Street, look for the Charles Hotel parking garage on your left.
Alewife T Station $7/day
Parking is available at Alewife T Station at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 16, and midway between Massachusetts Avenue and Fresh Pond Circle. Alewife T Station is located on the Red Line and any train will take you to Harvard T station (the third stop from Alewife and approximately a five minute ride).
